Fantastic Flying Machine

"A couple of hours later the Pest looked at Alvin's work with undisguised admiration.

So did Alvin.  'There.  It's done.  Now it's time to flight-test the Fernald Fantastic Flying Machine.'

On the driveway, facing the street, stood his bicycle.  It was propped up between two sawhorses.  Extending out from each side of the bike was an airplane wing.  Loops of wire connected the wings to the bar.  The two wings looked goofy because one wing was longer than the other.  That was because some of Dad's boards were longer than others.  Alvin didn't care to cut them to match because Dad bought them exactly to fit a project he was building in the basement.  The two wings also looked goofy because they drooped.  The tips sagged all the way to the ground.

They were covered with the living room drapes, temporarily tacked into place."
